Unlike traditional intensive adult courses, our programme has been designed specifically for young people, with flexible online learning, a small supportive cohort and tutor guidance throughout.

Most Level 1 Forest School qualifications are delivered over just a few intensive days and are primarily designed for adult learners.
We wanted to create something different.
The Open Awards Level 1 Award in Introduction to Forest School Principles is exactly the same nationally recognised qualification, but delivered in a way that's designed specifically for young people.
Learning is spread over approximately 15 teaching weeks, with bite-sized lessons, live online support and plenty of flexibility to help learners build confidence as they progress.
This programme is ideal for young people aged 14+ who:
Love being outdoors
Enjoy Forest School or nature-based learning
Would like a nationally recognised qualification
Are interested in conservation, education or outdoor careers
May one day like to become a Forest School Leader
No previous qualifications or Forest School experience are required.
Gain the nationally recognised Open Awards Level 1 Award in Forest School.
A supportive learning experience rather than a short intensive adult course.
Around two hours each week, recorded sessions and up to 12 months to complete.
A welcoming group where learners get to know both tutors and other young people with similar interests.
For some learners, this qualification is the first step towards becoming a Forest School Leader.
For others, it strengthens applications for college, volunteering and careers connected with:

• Sustainability
• Outdoor education
• Environmental education
• Childcare
It also provides a recognised qualification that reflects a genuine passion for nature and outdoor learning.

- How children learn through Forest School
- Woodland habitats and species
- Outdoor learning

- Hazards, risk awareness and safe practice
Assessment is portfolio based, with no final written examination.
